from 1751 reviewsThe SolarXtreme. 6:40 it's fantastic. What is also fantastic is the support from California Lighthouse. I spoke with many companies that sell LED lighting to greenhouses, when I explained what I was doing, I went from 1,000 W bulbs, trying to get away of so much heat, and to change to the LED lighting they recommended which lighting systems to use, and the Solar Xtreme 640 is prefect! Does not produce much heat. Does not take up a bunch of room. Fits close to the ceiling of my greenhouse, which gives me a lot of space to grow my orchids. With a controller, I can adjust the time and the percentage of light that my orchids can handle without burning. The staff at California Lighthouse is very knowledgeable about lighting for the growth of plants.
Moved through two stages of growth and the system was fairly easy to understand and operate. I’m sure the controller will provide many other options I haven’t learned to use for future tweaking.
I’m so very new to its use but it seems a more thorough step by step guidance with reasoning (school of lightworks) would probably be useful over and above what is supplied for no further cost as all of it is a bit pricey.
You could say I'm a old school grower, was growing Equatorial Sativas before there were any seed banks or Internet. The more advanced growers back then started experimenting with indoor growing under fluorescent tubes with fair results, Basically everything we used back then was homemade or converted.. hydro shops were non existent. When metal halide and soon after Hps lights started popping up as street lights and parking lot lights in every city. We would pick up old parking lot lights from salvage yards and started macgyver' ing these lights with extended wiring to separate ballast from socket so we could hang just the bulb and a fancy shop built reflector hood.
Our gardens improved 10 gold from the old fluorescent tubes.
Those were exciting times, built my first hydroponic garden back in the early 80's using "Liz's Garden" hydro set up . Lava rocks soaked in nutrient rich water, with an aquarium pump and a couple air stones ..
And now I see this tiny little Beast of a light using LEDs to cut cost and heat while doing the job it's intended in a masterful way!
Through 2 autos under the lil beast. In a 2x2 just for chits and giggles. Boy was I pleased when I had to move one auto to another tent. The one auto filled the 2x2 out completely, so dense and think had to do some LST training just to keep things in check!
For autos I picked a long winded 90+ day genetic.
Just past the 90 day mark and holy butt nugz batman! She will push 140G's in the dry it's looking like. Solid dense heavily trich coated bats with a dank fruity terp.
Damn I love this freaking freedom!
Always have.
Sorry for that long arse post! U can see I was heavily enlightened with product of this lil tank!
Whatever you guys are doing, keep it up, because you have nailed with a quality light that does exactly what it's meant to do. No hype no BS!
So glad I found Californialightworks! My 550 and controller was an excellent buy. So far I’m immediately impressed with the quality and performance!
Having the ability to control the type of light your plant is receiving is great,
Great product but just wish for one thing about the SolarSystem Controller
Great to be able to program a complete range of settings to correspond to seasons and create optimal lighting for any period. Love the Manual Mode timer. My only wish list item would be able to program a "Manual Mode setting" where the controller will go into a pre-set Manual Mode. Example: to program controller to default into Red: 1 White 1 Blue 1. for the Manual mode pre-set time. (Kind of like a pre-set view mode but without having to press more than one button when switching to manual mode where I always have to choose a lighting level in Manual mode). Have bought before and will buy again.
This tiny little box is a absolute must have. It's extremely easy to use. The ability to control the Red/white/Blue spectrum from 0-99 individually gives you more control and flexibility versus your standard plug in light. You can go from seed or clone propagation into vegative stages into bloom all at the little touchscreen.
Love being able to adjust the light spectrum to specific needs. Also love the built in timer, so glad I was able to get away from a wifi outlet. Initial programming was a breeze, there's so much more this controller can do, and I've only scratched the programming surface!
I bought two from another supplier of CA LightWorks products + 1 from CALW to over-winter tropical and subtropical bonsai indoors. Within a couple of weeks I noticed better/stronger growth, thicker leaves/stems, and shorter internodes, all highly desirable for bonsai. I'll be experimenting, but I'm currently using a 1:3:5, R:W:B (15% R, 45% W, 75% B) with very good results.
I've been around grow rooms and lights since the 90's when growing technology was expensive , had many parts involved, ran extremely hot and created sky high costs on your electrical bill (Metal Hylide and HPS). Fast forward 30+ years later and we now have COB LED's from California Light Works! After researching many different light manufacturers this past year and reading pages and pages of technical specifications, California Light Works stood out above the rest of the pack.
I put my Reed Avocado saplings, and Red Savina Habenaro plants in my tent a couple days ago, before germinating "other seeds" in January, and the plants are loving it.
The light is bright but not blinding you to the point of where you can't see. It runs very cool, even with 3 seedling heat matts running my tent never gets over 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It's a great price even without the current CLW Christmas Sale, and it's full spectrum for folks who don't want to be changing modes during the grow, and no need to configure gradual increase in brightness for sunrise and gradual dimming for sunset. The PPF mapping seems consistent all across the light, with no "hot spots". It really is the Best Light on the market today. Just buy it you'll be glad you did.
Definitely buy one along with the controller. I have complete control over the spectrum my plant needs at each stage of growth
I also own a SolarExtreme 500 which I was more than pleased with but in a 20"x36"x65" small tent I wondered could the lower wattage but variable spectrum SS 275 grow just as good if not better bud with lower running costs. So far plant is growing just as quickly and has a nice stocky profile. Can't wait to hit flowering and see how spectrum control does there.
